Went to go somewhere a couple Saturdays ago, and well, it won't start.

I ask Mike. He says it sounds like an ignition switch. Ah! Easy fix. Went and bought a new ignition switch. Put it in. Does it work? NOPE...

It's the STARTER that decided to take a nose dive into car part heaven. Oh for cryin' out loud. I really should put this poor car out of its misery. It's a 1996 Dodge Avenger ES, Indy Red. 231,723 ORIGINAL MILES, ORIGINAL ENGINE, ORIGINAL TRANS.

I'm awful pround o' that, can you tell?

Anyway...
It's fall. Election time! A cop I know is running for Sheriff. I think he has a great platform, but unfortunately, he's on the Democratic ticket running against an incumbent Republican in Conservative Utah. Many would say the poor guy doesn't have a chance in Hades. I hope they're wrong. I hope there are enough Utahns who actually care about the issues to research them and get involved and get educated enough to make an intelligent choice when they go to the polls. Good luck, CL. :-) (I'd post his name and election site on here, but I need to get his permission first...keep checkin' back)

And a new subject again...
My friend M and I are starting our own business: Two Chix Jewelry and Design. Keep checking back here and as soon as I get our website up and running I'll post the notice on here. On Saturday, while I was out shopping with my friend, Melanie, my husband decides to get the oil changed in the Grand Am. And, since it has 50,000 miles on it, he decided to do a transmission flush as well. So, $200 and an hour later he drives off down the road from the local Jiffy Lube. He makes it to Riverdale Road, then...putt...putt...putt... Grand Am dies on the side of the road. Kip calls Jiffy Lube and says he was just in there and now the car is not drivable, yada yada yada. Jiffy Lube tows it back to their shop. Turns out (or what their story is) is that their transmission fluid machine "malfunctioned" and put WAY TOO MUCH trans. fluid in the car. So, when Kip went on his merry little way, the trans. fluid blew the trans. cooler in the radiator, and the trans fluid went out all over the place. So it took them six hours to fix. But, it is fixed, so good job, Jiffy Lube.

That brings us to Sunday. I needed new battery cables in the Avenger. I went and bought new battery cables a while ago, but Mike, a mechanic I work with, said he would install them on Sunday. So, I drive on over to Mikey's house. He tears the car apart. Then he goes to install the new battery cables. Oooooooops...the dumbasses at Checker Auto give me the WRONG BATTERY CABLES. They're only 25 inch. I need AT LEAST 35-40 inch. So we drive like bats out of Hades to Checker Auto. We get there just as they're closing and get a new positive lead that is long enough. We get back, get everything hooked up. Mike says, "Fire it up!" Well...

I have power, but it won't turn over. CRAP! Mike figures out that the negative lead needs to ground the starter. BUT CHECKER GAVE ME 25 INCH CABLES! IT'S 7:00 PM ON A SUNDAY! NO ONE IS OPEN! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH!!!!!

We put the old cable on so I can get home. Car starts right up after we ground the starter. I make it down to the Maverick to get gas (which I would have done before, but I was afraid I wouldn't get the car started again...) and I put $43.00 in it to fill it up. Fire up the car. NOTHING. CRAP! AGAIN! But I had a jumper box in the car. Thank Heavens!!!! I get home. Finally.

Wake up this morning. Mike said on Sunday to go buy a new, longer negative cable and he'll put it on for me. So I hop in the Grand Am to pick up the cable so I don't have to worry about jump starting. Something...is...wrong. Why is the steering wheel so flimsy? Why do I feel like I'm riding in a go cart? I pull the Grand Am back in the driveway. FLAT...TIRE. Oh for the love of all that is decent and holy! Kip changes the tire for me. But, he also notices trans fluid in the garage where the Grand Am parks. Grrrrrreat.

I head over to Checker. Again. The guy keeps trying to give me crap saying I only need a 25 inch cable. LISTEN PAL! I NEED THE 58 INCH CABLE ON THE WALL! NOW! BELIEVE ME NIMROD!!! I get my cable and some ATF and head on my merry little way.

I get back home to get the Avenger. I jump start it and head off to Mike's. He replaces the cable. Woohoo! I'm back in business! Wait! What was that! Why is my oil light on?!?! Why did my engine just die! WTF?!?!

Mike says I probably have a clogged fuel filter. We get the car started again and I coast it back to the garage. Fuel filter looks pretty dirty. Oh well. Get a new one. But wait, now my gas pedal won't move...I can't accelerate! What the...?! Uh oh...why is this little throttle mechanism seized? Why won't it move! Oh for the love of all that is decent and holy! Checker doesn't have it. Napa doesn't either... dealers closed on Labor Day! NOW WHAT?!?!

Mike calls Phil, our boss at work. Phil comes by. It's not the mechanism that it seized; the throttle cable is broken! The casing has split and wound itself so tight around the cable it can't move! But what is this? Phil has a THROTTLE CABLE in his TRUCK?!?! Just laying around? Mike and Phil put their minds together to figure out how they're going to jimmy-rig this.

Then I get a phone call. It's Kip. While I'm out here messing with my car, he is home messing around with the Grand Am. He put it up on jack stands to see where the trans leak is coming from. He puts the car in gear (with the brake on) to move the trans flow. Then, the car door closed. The car is running. On jackstands. In gear. Door is closed. Locked. Kip wants my keys. Uh, I'm stuck in Harrisville with a seized throttle cable. Just what exactly am I to do?

In the meantime, Mike and Phil, the brilliant mechanics, (no sarcasm intended) manage to get this throttle cable working! Oh my heck! The car is running! The gas pedal is working! WOOHOO! Phil and Mike tell me this is a temporary fix and for heaven's sake take it easy! (Although Phil used more colorful words.)

I get home. I unlock the Grand Am for Kip. While I was gone he fixed the flat tire and put it back on the car. He also found that the trans fluid on the floor was from the old trans cooler that Jiffy Lube had to bypass when they fixed the car. So the Grand Am is fine.

Then I have to go to Melanie's to borrow her battery charger so I can get to work tomorrow. I have to buy a throttle cable tomorrow from the dealer. Oh well. I just hope nothing else goes wrong now. Knock on wood, say your prayers, keep your fingers crossed, and all that good stuff.

Is it Fall YET?! This job is almost done. But then there's another one in Rock Springs that he will be the foreman over so he'll be gone for another couple of months.

We had to buy a new TV today. The one we had has been going out for a while, but yesterday it finally bit the dust. Well, unless you like looking at all things ORANGE. ha ha ha So we bought a new widescreen TV. It's a lot easier to see!

Kip and I are thinking of getting motorcycles. Of course this is much easier for him than it is for me. I've NEVER been on one. But I think they look pretty cool. Kip has had motorcycles before and still has the endorsement on his driver's license. I'm gonna have to take a class or something to learn how to ride. Motorcycles tend to scare me a little bit.

Kip wants to get a Harley Street Glide in a color called Pewter Denim. It's a deep silver color but it's not glossy. I want to get the Softtail Deluxe Fat Boy bike in Black Pearl. But I think it's a bit too heavy for me right now. Kip says I'd be better off with a Deuce to start off with. Now, they're on strike, hopefully to gain what they so richly deserve and what they were promised in a legally binding contract.

I hope the citizens of the land of Og realize just how great a police force they have, and I hope they understand that these officers deserve to be compensated fairly.

Thanks OPD...you do a great job. :-)

Saturday Shopping...

Today I went shopping with my friend Melanie and her daughter, Jessica. We went to Gardner Village down in Midvale. It's an old pioneer mill-turned-outdoor shopping-restaurant place. It's rich with pioneer history. The shops are actually old pioneer cabins and the restaurant is in the old mill. They have the best fudge at Sweet Afton's and the best Christmas decorations at well, the Christmas Shoppe. I think the best time to go is in the fall. Not too hot, not too cold, and they have the cutest decorations.

Anyway, I was telling Jessica, 11, about the history behind the mill. About Archibald Gardner, who used to own the mill, and how he had several wives.

She said, "Oh, so he was prejudiced!"

I said, "Uh, no, he was POLYGAMIST."

She said, "Oh, that's what I meant."

You have to know Jessica. She's the smartest little kid I know, but she never ceases to amaze me the funny things that come out of her mouth. I told her I was going to put that little conversation on my blog...she didn't think that was very funny. YOU'RE FAMOUS NOW, JESS! ha ha ha :-)

Jeff...(more from the other site)

This is my little brother. Memorial Day... there are a lot of people who don't know what Memorial Day is really for. They think "school's out", "start of summer", or "the day the local pool opens". Memorial Day is to remember those who have fought for everything we as American citizens stand for: life, liberty, and the pursuit of a great purse. (Just kidding - about the purse part!)
So, in order to pay tribute to veterans in my family: Thank You and We Love You to Frank Mullett (10/19/1895 - 6/9/1976), my great-grandfather and veteran of World War I. And also Thank You and We Love You to Wendell Locke (5/23/1925 - 11/28/2005), my husband's grandfather and veteran of World War II. She said the bishop has something else in mind for me (oh FABULOUS) but I haven't gotten the dreaded phone call. So who knows what's going on. Apparently my whining for snow was heard by SOMEONE because it's been snowing for the last two days, and the forecast says we're going to have snow until Tuesday! WOOHOO!

So today is Sunday...went to church for the last time this year. Next Sunday is Christmas and we're going the family thing, then after that it's New Year's, and we're going to SLC and won't make it back in time to go to church at 9:00 in the morning. Good thing I don't have to teach again till the fourth Sunday in January!

This Friday my hubby is taking me to a play at Kingsbury Hall. We're seeing "It's A Wonderful Life". I'm really excited. It should be a lot of fun. I think we're going to the Spaghetti Factory for dinner after. I LOVE that place!

Ugh...tomorrow's Monday. Another fun filled work week. Yee frickin' haw. But then again I shouldn't gripe too much...I work for the government so I get all those obscure holidays off. :-)

Oh, since it's Sunday, here's a "church gossip" joke...

Elsa , the church gossip and self-appointed arbiter of morals, kept sticking her nose into other peoples' business. Several members were unappreciative of her activities, but feared her enough to maintain their silence. Elsa made a mistake, however, when she accused Sam, a new member, of being an alcoholic, after she saw his pickup truck one afternoon parked in front of the town's only bar. She commented to him and others that everyone seeing his truck there "would surely know what he was doing." Sam, a man of few words, stared at her for a moment and just walked away. He did not explain, defend, nor deny; he said nothing. Later that evening, Sam quietly parked his pickup in front of Elsa 's house and left it there all night.

HA HA HA HA

Evie the Shih Tzu

Just a pic of the puppy dog...

Ahhhh.....Friday

Yep. He was in Arizona visiting with some friends.

Strokes are odd. We were getting an hour by hour play by play of Grandpa's status. First it didn't look good, then he was getting better, then he took a downfall, then he got better....this went on for nearly a week.

Thanksgiving night, my husband drove to Arizona with his cousin to see their grandpa. The following Saturday, they brought him home to Fairview, Utah, because the doctors said there was nothing they could do. The stroke had left him paralyzed on his right side and had damaged his organs. He couldn't eat, and his living will stated that he didn't want to remain alive by artificial means, so a feeding tube was out of the question. He died Monday, November 28th, 2005.

Wendell Locke was one of the neatest people I had ever met. When my husband took me to meet him shortly before we were married, he met me with open arms and a giant hug. And he was like that every time I saw him. If I was ornery, or angry, or sad, I knew I could always count on him to make me feel better.

He was a Navy SeaBee in World War II. He used to tell me a story about how he was on a ship in Okinawa and the Japanese planes were flying so close he could see the instrument panel. The morning that happened he had drunk some orange juice for breakfast. Then the waves in the ocean were so bad that it made him sick. Ever since then he could never drink orange juice!

In Fairview, he had a ranch with many horses. I'm a horse fanatic. Whenever I wanted to see the horses he'd go out with me and tell me their names and funny stories about them. It didn't matter if they were in the far pastures. We'd just hop in his Chevy and we'd drive over the sagebrush out to them. He knew when every one of the colts was born, who they belonged to, and everything else. He was a horse whisperer, for sure. He could walk up to any one of those horses and they'd just stand there and let him walk right up to them. He had a calming influence with everything and everyone.

He taught me how to drive a tractor. He taught me how to build a fence. He taught me about irrigation, caring for horses, and how to be a better person. He taught me a lot about my husband, and why he does some of the dumb things he does. (Just kidding, honey, you know I love you.) And he taught me that no matter how idiotic some people are, they're still people, and you just take them with a grain of salt. (That's a story about my husband's step-father, and when I'm in a downright evil mood I will clue you in on that whole situation.)

I will miss him. Very much. At the funeral one of my husband's cousins played taps, and military rites were carried out. I'd never seen that before.

I feel truly blessed to have been able to be in the presence of such a man. And I look forward to the day when I will see him again.

Monday Monday Monday

Hey it's Monday! Yuk... :-)

So continuing on about the Farmer's Insurance thing. It took a WEEK to get a rental car out of them. I finally got really REALLY mad and made a few phone calls. I have to admit that I talked to a very professional person at Farmer's and he got the ball rolling. His name was Larry and he was awesome.

I got my car back LAST WEEK, September 22. 20 DAYS AFTER MY ACCIDENT. HEILIGE SCHEIßE, FLEDERMAUSMENCH! But I just have to give kudos to the body shop that fixed my car, "Paint Matters", on 33rd Street in Ogden. Owner's name is Dennis. His guys did a fantastic job. Seamless paint finish. I recommend them to anyone!

It's-a finally gettin' cold here in Utah. Woo hoo! The leaves are changing and since we got so much water this year everything is so vibrant. Really pretty reds and oranges. Ogden Canyon is a nice little drive, as is Spanish Fork Canyon.

Hey, is it Christmas, yet? Someone told me today that there are only 91 days left till Christmas. Are there really people who keep track of this? Well, to answer my own question, yes....I am one of them! ha ha ha I usually start listening to Christmas music in August but my husband gets mad and makes me promise not to turn it on till AFTER Thanksiving Dinner is OVER. What a party pooper! I'm with the malls man.....right after Halloween! That's when you break out the Christmas junk! But alas, I am sworn to wait until Thanksgiving.

FARMER'S INSURANCE S*U*C*K*S!

Ok so I'm at Panda Express getting lunch yesterday. Minding my own business. I walk out to my car, get in, twist around to get the door, and the thing gets ripped out of my hands! Some punk kid who parked across from me didn't have it in gear and it rolled back AND HIT MY CAR! MY BRAND NEW, ONLY HAD IT SINCE MAY, CAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Cops come out and write up a really nice police report for me. I find out that he has Farmer's insurance. (After his mommy brings him his insurance card because apparently he's too dumb to carry it in the car). I try to get Farmer's insurance to give me a rental car. Will they? NO!!! Because some BOZO in OKLAHOMA has to make a decision as to weather or not this punk kid really is at fault. HAVE THEY READ THE POLICE REPORT?!?!

So, now I have to go through the entire Labor Day weekend without a car because Farmer's insurance has absolutely NO IDEA what they're doing.

I'M USING THIS BLOG TO INFORM THE CONSUMERS IN THE UNITED STATES THAT FARMER'S INSURANCE SUCKS BIG TIME!

I admit that I used to be with Farmer's. I switched. Their customer service is a big reason why. DON'T USE FARMER'S! That means summer is just about over. I'm excited for Autumn. It's the best time of the year. Except that GAS PRICES SUCK RIGHT NOW! Ok I'm tired of hearing about gas prices...

So I tuned in to my daily radio program and come to find out that they took Michael Savage off the Utah market for some reason. Don't know why. Pisses me off though. Now they've got some windbag named Paul Beck or something like that. I'm not liking him. Oh well, who cares...time to find another radio show for my drive home from work.

Tomorrow is Friday...which means THREE DAY WEEKEND HERE I COME! It's about flippin' time too. AND IT'S PAYDAY! Summer is almost over. ha ha ha I'm getting excited for Autumn. It's my favorite time of year. The leaves changing, the crisp air...what's not to love?

So I started workin' out today. It was great. I feel like a million bucks. Now I just have to KEEP IT UP!

So, Kip's birthday is Thursday. He will be 31. It kind of freaks him out a little, but then he just laughs when he remembers that I turn 30 in March. I'm WAY FREAKED OUT about that!

Yeah, I work for the government. Not Federal, not even State. I work for one of the largest cities in northern Utah and it shall remain, in this blog, forever nameless.

I like my job. I work in the Fleet department. It's great. I meet a lot of people. And it's always good to know a few cops when I'm speedin' down the road. ( ha ha ha)

What's really great about the city I work for is that it has a great rodeo in the summertime. And in the winter they have a "Christmas Village" on the court grounds. It's a lot of fun to get a big group of friends and look at all the little scenes and drink hot chocolate and get some food after. I know, you're thinking, "OOoooooohhhh what fun...NOT". Well, this is Utah...it's about as spiffy as nightlife gets. ;-)

I like Utah. Where else can you live in a desert and have five feet of snow? The mountains are gorgeous, the lakes are nice. The driving, well, that leaves something to be desired. But at least it's better than Idaho. And I say that without malice because my dad was born in Idaho. :-)

Anyway, more useless crap to talk about. One of these days I might have something worthwhile to read.

Sunday Sunday Sunday

So today is Sunday, 7:11 pm. Most of my blogging will be nonsense; my way of venting without yelling.

It's been an eventful week. My neighborhood is a nice little neighborhood in Utah. But last Thursday, a wacko turned it into a war zone. We'll call the wacko "John Doe" because the last thing I need is to get in trouble for villainizing him and making it look like he's guilty before a trial. But believe me, the guy is a guilty, wacko nutjob. He pulled a gun on a neighbor, the dispute over a flippin' ladder. Then he barricaded himself in his home. Took five hours for the men in blue to arrest him. They later found porn, guns (he's a felon and therefore a restricted person and not allowed to own firearms) and a journal detailing how he was going to kill his neighbors.

My good friend "M" and her family used to live next door to this nutjob but luckily moved away about a month or so ago. I feel bad for the people who moved into "M"'s home and didn't know what they'd gotten themselves into.

Speaking of "M", she and her family just moved into a newly built home yesterday. It's so beautiful. I hate her. (Just kidding...she's awesome. I'm just completely jealous!) We helped them move. Her kids are really excited to have new rooms, and she is just ecstatic over her new kitchen. It's HUGE!

Maybe one of these days Kip and I will build another home. It was one of the worst experiences of my life but maybe the next one will be easier since I know what to expect!

Another friend of mine, "A", and I are thinking of starting our own business. We're thinking of selling the bead jewelry we've been making. I found some really good websites to get materials cheap and we will probably start on the web, and after a few years maybe open a little store here in Utah. We don't know...we're just thinking right now.

Ok now let's post some stuff that you should never talk about at work or with your in-laws (ha ha): RELIGION AND POLITICS...YEAH!!! ha ha ha

Yep, I live in Utah and that by default makes me Republican. Proud of it too. And yes, living in Utah also defaults me to being Mormon. Darn proud o' that, too. I don't buy the conspiracy theories that G. W. Bush and the current Administration thought up and carried out the 9/11 tragedy over oil. Liberal nutjobs who are in love with Bill and Hillary need to just put their tails between their legs, bow their heads and admit defeat. THE REPUBLICANS WON! GET OVER IT! It's better than a lying-sack-o'-dirt-who-looks-like-a-cheap-imitation-of-Lurch for President, don't ya' think?!

Ok so something less irritating: Does the government have nothing better to do than mess with Daylight Savings? Aren't we in a war or something? Yes, we have several of our troops in Iraq fighting for their freedom but who cares? We have to do something about Daylight Savings!!! WHAT MORONS!!!!!!! I like it when it gets dark early! I like it when it's cold! That's part of the attraction of winter for me! Maybe Utah should just do as the Arizonian's (is that a word?) do: forget Daylight Savings! Let's just have ONE TIME for the whole year!!!! The only reason Daylight Savings came about was so the farmer's had more daylight to harvest their crops! How many farmers are left in Utah? (Which makes me sick because just where in the world do we think we're going to get our food?!) And with all the new machinery it doesn't take as long to harvest anymore.

Oh boy...slow day in the neighborhood, obviously. Maybe I'll have something more interesting to write tomorrow. Don't you wish...
